Riverside Lives! Get to know the faces, names, stories, and practices of the riverside dwellers people.

The documentary "Riverside Lives - Traditional Knowledge and Practices in the Forest" is now available. A journey through Terra do Meio (PA) to discover the unique way of life of the "beiradeiro" people, who have developed an economy of abundance based on indigenous and sertanejo (backlander) knowledge.

"In the beginning, people wanted to value the forest, but they forgot about the people. But I always say that there is no forest without the people," says Raimunda Rodrigues, from the Rio Iriri Resex (Extractive Reserve).

Despite their importance for the conservation of the Amazon, the “beiradeiros” have been historically made invisible and today face pressure from agribusiness and illegal mining. The documentary reinforces the urgency of recognizing the Beiradeiro Traditional Agricultural System (SAT) as a cultural heritage.

With their film about to be screened during COP30, the beiradeiros show the world that they are part of the solution and the future of the planet.

The film is based on the book “Terra do Meio | Xingu, the knowledge and practices of the beiradeiros of the Iriri and Riozinho do Anfrísio Rivers,” produced jointly by 15 beiradeiro researchers. Download here: https://isa.to/3WXgLyZ
