Dance, celebration and resistance | Wawi20years

Autor: Instituto Socioambiental - ISA

In Wawi Indigenous Land (Mato Grosso state, Brazil), the Khĩsêtjê people sing and dance until dawn to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their traditional territory retaking. More than two hundred people gathered themselves at ngo, the men’s house in the center of Khinkatxi village to remember the elders’ fight for the retrievement and protection of their lands. There, Khĩsêtjê, Kawaiwete and Yudja leaders strengthened their alliance in defense of the Xingu and the Amazon.
